I picked this up on a whim during Mario Day (Mar。 10th) and while the story itself is clearly aimed at kids, it’s hard not to read this book and smile。 The Mario Bros。 series is a great fit for a cartoony and colorful book like this, and it’s fun to see the bros in more expressive and dynamic poses。 Everyone gets some time to shine, but it’s Princess Peach that really stood out to me! Nintendo has only recently started expanding on her as a character and using her in roles other than damsel in distress, so I was expecting an old comic like this to be a more traditional take on her character。 But lo and behold! Peach is a charmingly ambitious and adventurous character who, instead of waiting around, decides to break out of Bowser’s Castle herself and from that moment onward COMPLETELY steals the show。 Give me more of this Peach Nintendo! This collection is a wonderful romp from start to finish and a must own for Mario fans new and old。 。。。more

This serialized version of a TV show (or maybe a compilation of a weekly comic book insert) was silly and fun。 My 7yo loved it。 Me。。。not so much。

I thought that the story was pretty interesting but the art in the book was really good and portrayed the story really well。

Decidedly cute and highly nostalgic for early 90's kids, "Super Mario Adventures" was a serial published in Nintendo Power as a way of both promoting "Super Mario World" and crafting the lore of the Mushroom Kingdom during the decade where Mario's storyline was fleshed out properly。 This is purely silly, somewhere between American comic strips and Japanese gag manga, but for Nintendo fans it's a cute "remember when?" I remember reading this comic back when I used to get Nintendo Power and to find that they republish all the whole collection that was in these issues in one paperback made me happy。 The humor still holds up and just re-reading the whole adventure was a bast。 It was also made me wish they made the Princess this awsome in the games。

Really good not what you would think for a book based off of a game

My 1st grader and I loved reading this together! Split into 13 chapters, with a bonus short story called, "Mario vs Wario" at the end was perfect for my Mario-obsessed son。 Each chapter leaves off on a cliff-hanger, which kept my 7 year old craving for bedtime as we would read one chapter each night。 I read most of it to him, he is a strong reader for his age though and he enjoyed reading a lot of it to me as well。 My 1st grader and I loved reading this together! A faithful adaptation of the silly, lighthearted, fun spirit of the Super Mario video game series。The characters from the games are expanded upon, giving a bit more personality than we usually see in the games proper, but still feeling "in character" and true to their roots。This graphic novel is fun for all ages, and is a great gift for the Mario fan in your life! This was wonderful! I am deeply impressed! This graphic novel in 12 installments offered a charming look at Mario, Luigi, and the Princess。 Yoshi, Toad, and Bowser all put in appearances as well。 In some respects, it has the feel of one of the video games, but at the same time, it has quite a different vibe。 There is quite a bit of humor, some zany action, and some good, old-fashioned fun。 I also like that Princess Toadstool is a woman of action here。 She makes decisions, she refuses to be pushed This was wonderful! As a little sliver of Nintendo history, Super Mario Adventures is a charming and genuinely funny read。 In the early 1990s, Nintendo was synonymous with video games, and their mascot Mario was the face of a growing industry。 Since 1981, the Japanese-created Italian plumber had appeared in arcade coin-ops, best-selling home console titles, and all manner of sports games。 But he and his brother Luigi also landed a TV show and a (horrible) live-action movie, as well as print comic runs。 While the Ma As a little sliver of Nintendo history, Super Mario Adventures is a charming and genuinely funny read。 In the early 1990s, Nintendo was synonymous with video games, and their mascot Mario was the face of a growing industry。 Since 1981, the Japanese-created Italian plumber had appeared in arcade coin-ops, best-selling home console titles, and all manner of sports games。 But he and his brother Luigi also landed a TV show and a (horrible) live-action movie, as well as print comic runs。 While the Mario Bros。’s goofy antics in the Mushroom Kingdom didn’t always translate well to mediums outside of video games, the comics in Super Mario Adventures joyously call back to the character’s timeless inspirations, from Popeye cartoons to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland。The book is a compilation of comics published in the pages of Nintendo Power (the company’s monthly fan mag) in 1993, which together comprise a single narrative。 The plot is as simple as any involving Mario: the evil King Bowser has invaded the peaceful Mushroom Kingdom, and stolen away their intrepid Princess Toadstool。 With the help of friends near and far, Mario and Luigi set out to save her and defeat Bowser。But writer Kentaro Takekuma managed to take the games’ wafer-thin stories and weave something surprising out of it, drawing inspiration from several early Mario titles。 The typically dainty princess is a strong-headed and crafty leader, who is captured because she goes after Bowser alone in a rage。 Mario is a cheerful hero whose eagerness to help others gets him in trouble, while Luigi is a silly and easily scared impulse eater who, at one point, cross-dresses as the princess to fool Bowser。 And Bowser, obsessed with marrying his beloved princess, is a hothead whose thirst for conquest can’t match his desire to be adored by Toadstool。However, none of these characters would be as distinct or comedic without Charlie Nozawa’s expressive artwork。 The cast stretches and bounces across pages, launching into the air on Bullet Bills and slinking down hallways to escape ghostly Boos。 Every full-color page is designed to make the reader laugh, which is truly Mario’s strong suit。 He’s a funny-looking man, and the turtles and dinosaurs and talking mushrooms he spends his days with are funny-looking things。 Nozawa channels the animated roots of Mario’s design to make action with rhythm and style。There are a lot of cute scenes that can be appreciated by Mario nerds。 Mario and Luigi actually do some plumbing here; their friend Yoshi is turned into an egg by Bowser, which echoes his first appearance; and an extended sequence in a haunted house suddenly becomes a session with Dr。 Mario。 The book also includes a bonus comic called “Mario & Wario,” though this little story isn’t as inventive as the main adventure。I’m a Mario superfan, and I love finding lesser known pieces of the character’s history in arcades and bookstores。 While it may not be 4-star reading material, it earns the grade by being a remarkable vignette in Mario’s more than 30-year history。 。。。more

Very cute vintage comics and manga。 I love how fierce Princess Peach is here when compared to her earlier, more docile appearance。

Fun for those who like Mario。 I love the fact Peach gets a bigger role than she usually does。 I like the ending with Wario, but kind of want a comic book about him now。 There should be more comic books with Nintendo characters, Animal Crossing would be good one I always thought。 I kind of liked the art and the jokes were a little corny at times, but still a fun read。
